Case Study

Devon

Forrest Industrial were awarded a contract to raise resin transformers on a solar PV site after changes to ground conditions on site meant some of the transformers were found tobe sitting in ground water. Ground conditions on this site were particularly wet so we installed an aluminium temporary roadway to allow access to the stations on site. It was not possible to remove the concrete roof structure weighing 10t allowing us to lift the transformers from the stations because the roof lifting points were to corroded to be used.

After discussions with the client, it was agreed we would supply bespoke steel raisers for the transformers to stand on raising them permanently out of any future water ingress to the station.

After manually raising the transformers, the steel raisers were fitted to the station and the transformers positioned to rest on top.

The temporary roadway was cleared and the site handed back to the client.

Contract Lifting And Site Services

Forrest Industrial were awarded a contract to assist in repowering a fire damaged transformer / inverter station on Solar PV site in Gloucestershire.

After discussions with the client, it was agreed that the fire damaged inverter side of the concrete station would be demolished and cleared and the station made good with a new station base created for the new inverter system. This was to be completed as quickly and as safely possible to avoid lost generation to the solar PV site. The heaviest lift on this project was only 9t but due to ground conditions normally found on these types of sites selecting the correct plant was key.

All equipment inside the station was carefully removed and the fire damaged side of the station cleared, we cast a new concrete base for the station and walled up the remaining end of the structure.

After the structure was cleaned and painted the replacement transformer was lifted into positioned and the bespoke GRP roof, we supplied fitted the site was cleared and handed back to the client.

Solar PV Farm Transformer Exchange

Forrest Industrial were awarded a contract to uplift and exchange a faulty 10t transformer on solar PV site in Oxfordshire with a replacement transformer and this was to be carried out as quickly as possible to avoid generation losses to the site.

The sites only access was over two existing farm bridges with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 5t and the necessary plant and cranes needed to complete the task all weighing over 20t.

After careful planning we installed temporary bridge landings at either end of the existing bridges and supplied and lifted into position temporary steel road bridges with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 30t allowing safe access to site for the necessary plant to carry out the lifting on site.

On arrival to site we unloaded the replacement transformer and transported it onto site and safely carried out the exchange of the failed transformer for the replacement and removed all bridges and temporary landings leaving the site as found only 7 days after the initial phone call from the client.
